It is an excellent way of replacing a single tooth without the disadvantages of fixed bridgework or removable dentures. It is an ideal treatment for teeth which need to be extracted due to root fracture, decay or infection. Most patients experience limited discomfort for a few days after the procedure and usually can wear their temporary denture during the healing period. Impressions can be taken approximately 6 weeks later for most people with the final crown being fitted 2 weeks later. For most situations, the crown is cemented onto a special metal post which screws into the implant. The crown fits very precisely onto the implant post and usually only a weak cement is necessary as these crowns rarely come off. Most patients forget they have an implant crown after a while as they feel so natural.
